How to Give Your Dog Proper Nutrition

A dog is a man’s best friend, so the saying goes, and this has been the case since we first domesticated dogs thousands of years ago. Many people choose to keep dogs as pets, and there are many different types of breeds that offer characteristics from companionship and protection to hunting skills.

What all breeds have in common is the fact that they need to be fed a highly nutritious diet if you want them to look and feel their best. In the modern world, everyone is on the go, so it is very tempting just to grab the first bag of dog food that you see at the supermarket, however, this is not likely to be the best option for your canine friend.

These commercial foods often lack the nutrients that your pet will need. In order to give them the healthiest diet possible, we are now going to take a look at how to give your dog the nutrition that they require to be fit and healthy.

Avoid Cooked Food

In the wild, dogs would not eat anything cooked, so it is very strange that some humans insist on feeding them cooked meat. When the meat is cooked, it loses many of its essential nutrients, and the only reason that humans cook their meat is for taste purposes. Your hound will be much healthier with a raw meat diet and will actually enjoy their food more.

Feed Them Fresh, Whole Foods

Just like humans, dogs love fresh food. Fresh vegetables contain enzymes that will help your dog’s digestive system, and they also include high fiber content, which is important for nutrition.

Some brands of dog food combine vegetables and meat, and you can read the review of such products to make up your mind about their suitability for your pet. One thing is for sure, though, you will notice how much more alert and healthy their coat looks when fed a balanced diet.

Add Protein

Dogs thrive on a protein-heavy diet, and if you are not keen on feeding your pet a pure meat diet, then you can source protein elsewhere. Although dogs would not necessarily eat lentils in the wild, they are a great source of protein and fiber, that when added to a meat mix, can provide your pet with an additional boost of protein so that they can run all day long.

Avoid Gluten

Gluten is something that no canine would encounter in the wild, and there is absolutely no reason why you should be feeding your dog products that include gluten.

This is often the case with dried foods as glutinous products will be added as a binder. Often corn is added, and this will play a major role in causing your dog to have gas and an upset stomach. So, to avoid those foul aromas and to keep your animal healthy, remove gluten from its diet.

As we have discovered, it is important to feed your dog fresh, whole foods if you want them to have the most nutritious diet possible. Combine vegetables with fresh meat and avoid gluten if you want to keep their digestive system healthy. The added protein will help them to run all day long and try and feed them a raw diet as far as is possible so that your dog can lead a long and healthy life.
